Delivered by The Green Kitchen, a brilliant local group passionate about food, community and sustainability, the session gave residents the chance to try new ingredients, boost their confidence in the kitchen, and learn how to cook healthy meals without spending a fortune.
Together, the group prepared a range of Mediterranean tapas, with Moroccan lentils proving to be the favourite dish of the day! Many residents were trying some of the ingredients for the very first time.
The focus wasn’t just on flavour but also on how to make healthy eating affordable, accessible and enjoyable. Residents shared ideas on where to shop locally for good-value ingredients, and picked up useful tips for reducing salt by using garlic, herbs and spices in creative ways.
One resident, Anne (77), said:
“I’ve learnt how to cook without salt and use new herbs and spices for the first time!”
Hayley O’Shea, Place Investment and Partnerships Lead at Orbit, said:
“It’s wonderful to see residents coming together to learn, share and try something new. Sessions like this build confidence and wellbeing, while supporting healthier and more sustainable choices in everyday life. Thank you to The Green Kitchen for delivering such an inspiring session.”
Lucy Gray from The Green Kitchen added:
“It was wonderful to watch the group enjoy eating food they had never tried before and learning new skills”
